Presentation

Recent sports injury. Suspected medial meniscal tear.

Patient Data

Age: 25 years
Gender: Male
  • Bucket-handle tear of the medial meniscus with consequent absent bow-tie sign, and double PCL sign due to the medially displaced fragment coursing next to the PCL (see annotated images). 
  • Moderate knee joint effusion.

Case Discussion

The absent bow tie sign is specific to the sagittal plane images, whilst the double PCL sign is usually well demonstrated in all three imaging planes.
