Presentation

Pain, swelling, and limited mobility of the knee joint following acute injury

Patient Data

Age: 30 years
Gender: Male

On the MR of the knee, a vertical tear of the body and both anterior and posterior horns of the medial meniscus was noted, with flips towards the center of the joint, located in front of the posterior cruciate ligament (PCL), indicating a double PCL sign.

Additionally, the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) is no longer visualized on the sequences, indicating a complete tear, along with a partial tear of the distal portion of the posterior cruciate ligament (PCL).

Joint effusion was also observed, mainly in the suprapatellar bursa.

Case Discussion

The MRI findings are typical of a bucket-handle tear of the medial meniscus. This is a specific type of vertical meniscal tear, commonly seen in the medial meniscus and often associated with an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear. It can also occur in the lateral meniscus
