Buckle rib fracture

Right sided chest wall trauma followed by pain for last one week.

Patient Data

Age: 50 years
Gender: Male

Ultrasound images at the site of pain pointed to by the patient. Images are aligned to the long axis of the rib. The image without compression shows a subtle rib cortex abnormality. Ultrasound with compression shows compressed subcutaneous fat along with rib cortical buckle. There is no local hematoma.

Case Discussion

This case demonstrates the importance of compression ultrasound in the evaluation of a buckle rib fracture.
