Undergoing CT colon for change in bowel habit.

Patient Data

Age: 70 years
Gender: Female

These selected images covering the lumbosacral spine show that L4 has a butterfly vertebral body shape with thin bony bridges anteriorly and posteriorly, and a gap centrally.

The right transverse process of L5 is expanded and forms a pseudoarticulation with S1.

Case Discussion

This study shows two incidental findings of the lumbosacral spine; a butterfly vertebral body and a type IIa lumbosacral transitional vertebral body (Castellvi classification).
