Presentation
Right-sided, lower abdominal, non-shifting pain for the last few days.
Patient Data
The appendix shows normal diameter (< 6 mm) and compressibility. The cecum and the terminal ileum show circumferential wall thickening. There is an outpouching from the medial cecal wall inferior to the ileocecal junction. The outpouching shows a hypoechoic wall with internal air foci. It is surrounded by edematous, echogenic fat. There are subcentimeter-sized ovoid pericolic nodes, hypervascularity without any local fluid collection.
Case Discussion
An adult male presented with a non-shifting right-sided lower abdominal pain. The ultrasound shows cecal diverticulitis at the site of maximum pain/ tenderness. Later a CT scan was done which favored non-perforated cecal diverticulitis. The patient was treated conservatively.
