Plain abdominal x-rays demonstrate several dilated small bowel loops, and a distended hollow viscus in the left upper quadrant. Whilst this appears somewhat like a stomach, inspection of the erect images demonstrate the stomach (and hiatus hernia) superior to this.

CT of the abdomen confirms a cecal volvulus, with a whirl sign on the axial images. The ileocecal junction is nicely displayed at the right superior aspect of the rotated cecum.
