Presentation
Acute abdominal pain and vomiting
Patient Data

Grossly distended segment of large bowel loop is noted occupying the central region of abdomen.
Rest of the large bowel loops are collapsed.
No signs of perforation or pneumatosis.
Small bowel loops are not dilated.

Grossly dilated segment of bowel loop, with haustration indicating large bowel loop, is noted in the central region of abdomen and towards left upper quadrant, having a closed loop obstruction, suggestive of caecal volvulus.
No complications like perforation or ischaemia or pneumatosis.
Case Discussion
Caecal volvulus is described as twisting of caecum around its mesentery.
Complications include ischaemia, perforation and peritonitis.
The patient immediately underwent laparotomy, identifying the caecal volvulus and a right hemicolectomy was done, and the patient recovered well from surgery.
