There is a cartilage coalition between the calcaneus and the navicular bones.
Edema is found in the region of the tarsal and hindfoot bones related to trauma.
Subtalar joint effusion and subcutaneous edematous changes at the dorsal aspect of the foot and ankle also are seen.
Case Discussion
Talocalcaneal and the calcaneonavicular coalitions are the two most commons types of tarsal coalitions. A tarsal coalition is a union between two or more of the tarsal bones in the foot. The union can consist of bone, cartilage-like (as in this case) or fibrous tissues.
