Patient Data

Age: 60 years
Gender: Female
x-ray

Curvilinear, oblong-shaped calcific density within the subacromial space at the level of the infraspinatus tendon. A second separate density located more distally, lies within the infraspinatus tendon. No degenerative change at the level of the a.c. joint or glenohumeral joint.

Comment : These findings are consistent with calcium hydroxyapatite deposition in the infraspinatus footplate and sub-acromial bursa.

Case Discussion

Calcific tendinitis is a self limiting condition due to deposition of calcium hydroxyapatite within tendons, usually of the rotator cuff.
