Recurrent right hip pain and limitation of movement over 2 years duration.

Focal calcification or osteophyte lipping from the tip of the right greater trochanter. The rest of bony pelvis is unremarkable.

Abnormal signal change is noted along the tendinous part of the right gluteus medius muscle until its insertion into the greater trochanter. It displays bright signal on PD FS, STIR and T2 with evidence of enhancement following IV contrast administration denoting active inflammation. This is associated with inflammation of the trochanteric bursa.
Case Discussion
The patient had greater trochanteric pain syndrome which include a variety of pathologies that cause lateral hip pain. Calcific tendinitis is one of the causes of this syndrome and is most likely due to previous tear or inflammation.
