Presentation
No history of trauma. Left-sided knee pain that developed rapidly in a few days. Upon physical examination, profound pain around the medial femoral condyle and the origin of the middle collateral ligament.
Patient Data
A circumscribed calcification with smooth margins is visible adjacent to the medial femoral condyle. The appearance does not match that of the very common Pellegrini-Stieda lesion, in which case the calcific fragment should be more linear, and radioopaque. With the history in mind, findings are in line with calcific tendinitis of the medial collateral ligament.
Case Discussion
Calcific tendinitis is most commonly observed in the suprapinatus muscle tendon, but occasionally other similar ligaments in the body can be affected by this condition.
