Calcific tendinitis/tendinosis of the medial collateral ligament
Presentation
Patient presenting with chronic pain localized on the medial aspect of the knee with no history of trauma.
Patient Data
Long axis view of the proximal, thickened MCL with an aggregate of calcifications.
Axial cine registration of MCL starts from femoral attachment to the level of the medial meniscus.
Case Discussion
Ultrasound exam showed a conglomerate of calcifications causing thickening of the proximal part of the medial collateral ligament (MCL) of the knee.
The location is not typical for Pellegrini-Stieda lesion calcification and the patient didn't suffer any trauma that could cause partial tearing of the ligament. Also, the region is touch-sensitive with quite a high level of pain.
Altogether this leads to a diagnosis of calcific tendinitis/tendinosis of the MCL, which is quite an unusual location for this entity.
