Calcific tendinosis - pectoralis major

Presentation

Acute onset, non-traumatic origin of right anterior shoulder pain - 2 days.

Patient Data

Age: 52 yrs
Ultrasound

There is calcification in pectoralis major tendon. There is surrouding soft tissue odema. Size of calcification is about 16 x 16 x 8 mm.  There is no tear pectoralis major tendon.

Rotator cuff tendons are normal.

Case Discussion

Findings of calcific tendinosis involving pectoralis major tendon. Leak of calcium in surrounding soft tissue results in local inflammation which is cause of acute onset of pain in anterior shoulder.
