Progressive breathlessness ? consolidation

Patient Data

Age: 80 years
Gender: Male

Extensive calcified pleural plaque burden. Mediastinal plaques are also seen.

No deterioration or significant progression from recent CXRs.


CT from 6 years earlier

Proned non-contrast phase.

Extensive circumferential pleural plaque burden, including mediastinal and pericardial deposits. Pleural thickening over lower plaques (but not involving mediastinal components).

Case Discussion

Extensive calcified pleural plaques compatible with asbestos exposure.

Nice example on CXR and CT of potential mediastinal extent.
