Presentation

Shortness of breath and fever. Infection?

Patient Data

Age: 65 years
Gender: Male
x-ray

Bilateral calcified pleural plaques most pronounced in the mid zones.

Lungs clear.

Heart size normal.

Case Discussion

Pleural calcification can occur for a number of reasons including; prior empyema, hemothorax and trauma.

Multiple bilateral calcified pleural plaques are almost pathognomonic of prior asbestos exposure.
