Calcified vas deferens and seminal vesicles

Presented to Emergency department with non specific abdominal pain.

Patient Data

Age: 70 years
Gender: Male

There was no demonstrable cause for patient's abdominal pain on the plain film abdomen. Incidental note was made of  tubular calcification in his pelvis consistent with calcification of the seminal vesicles and vas deferens.

Case Discussion

Differentials for seminal vesicle and vas deferens calcification:

  • primary / idiopathic
  • secondary
    • metabolic causes. diabetes mellitus is the most common cause
    • chronic infections: tuberculosis, schistosomiasis, chronic urinary tract infection
