Preoperative planning for total hip replacement

Patient Data

Age: 70 years
Gender: Female

Calibration ball marker projected over the mid lower pelvis.

Two cannulated hip screws on the right. OA of both hips.

Case Discussion

For accurate preoperative planning for total hip arthroplasty with digital radiography, the orthopedic surgeon uses digital templating. Templating requires the use of a marker of known size on the image which is used to calibrate the size of the joint prosthesis components. Most commonly, a radiopaque sphere of known diameter is used as the marker.
