Carcinoma right breast

Case contributed by Dr Garth Kruger

Routine screening mammogram in a 75 year old.

Patient Data

Age: 75
Gender: Female

By looking at the MLO view you may initially think this is a small intra mammary lymphnode. The position is acceptable. But on the CC view its unusually medial in the breast. And the teaching point is its too dense for a node.

A small infiltrating ductal carcinoma.

Case Discussion

Any post menopausal woman who develops a change in breast imaging deserves careful thought.

The lesion is too dense to be discounted at as lymph node. Not all lesions projected over the pectoral profile on the MLO view are lymph nodes.
