Presentation

Prostate cancer. Leg pain ?metastatic disease

Patient Data

Age: 80 years
Gender: Male

Bone scan

Nuclear medicine

Tc99m-HDP bone scan

There is diffuse increased tracer uptake seen throughout the heart, the appearances are suggestive of cardiac amyloidosis.

Focal uptake in the left hip joint is likely related to degenerative change. Mild lumbar uptake also likely degenerative.

Urinary catheter in situ.

 

Case Discussion

 99mTc-DPD and 99mTc-HDMP have been shown to have high sensitivity and specificity for the diagnosis of cardiac amyloidosis.

Cardiac uptake can be graded according to the Perugini scale.
