Carotid body tumour
Swelling on left side of neck for 1 year. Systemically stable. He was initially evaluated with ultrasound which demonstrated a very hypervascular mass situated at the right common carotid artery bifurcation, spraying the bifurcation.

The study demonstrated a T2 hyperintense mass with prominent flow voids, giving the "salt and pepper" sign typical of a paraganglioma (glomus tumor). In this case, the position of the tumour is classic of the carotid body tumour. It was difficult to identify the main feeder but likely branches of the external carotid artery.
This case demonstrated very well the "salt and pepper" sign seen in paraganglioma (glomus tumours). This patient is yet to undergo surgery and such histology is not available to confirm the diagnosis.
