Carpal tunnel syndrome in bifid median nerve

Clinical diagnosis of carpal tunnel syndrome. NCV - Not done. Referred for Ultrasound of carpal tunnel.

Patient Data

Age: 45 yrs
Gender: Female

Early division of median nerve is noted proximal to carpal tunnel. 
( Cross sectional area of radial division - 0.8 mm2 ; Cross sectional area of ulnar  division - 0.9 mm2 ; Combined cross sectional area - 17 mm2 )

Case Discussion

Combine cross sectional area > 11 mm2 is considered abnormal and compatible with carpal tunnel syndrome in a case of bifid median nerve.
