Presentation
Fall from height.
Patient Data
No acute brain abnormalities. Right frontal subgaleal haematoma. Dense right lens.
Fall with right periorbital bruising. Has a dense cataract precluding the assessment of the retina.
The lens shows increased and heterogeneous echogenicity in keeping with a cataract. Vitreous body has normal sonographic appearances, with homogeneous content and with no features of haemorrhage. No evidence of retinal detachment. The medial scleral calcification demonstrated on CT was not identified sonographically.
Case Discussion
This case illustrates a right sided cataract assessed with ultrasound due to suspicion of posterior globe pathology. The opaque lens precluded visualisation of the back of the eye in the ophthalmologic examination.
