Ceacal volvulus

Scout image reveals a markedly dilated bowel loop seen in the left side of the abdomen. CT scan shows an extensively dilated left-sided cecum with horizontally oriented twisted and collapsed bowel loops seen in the center of the abdomen, features consistent with cecal volvulus.
Case Discussion
Cecal volvulus accounts for ~10% of all intestinal volvuluses and generally occur in somewhat younger patients than with sigmoid volvulus, most being 30-60 years old 1. It's a rare emergency surgical condition caused by the torsion of the cecum, distal ileum, and the proximal colon around the axial plane related to the lack of normal fixation of the cecum 2.
