Central neurocytoma

Case contributed by Dr Fakhry Mahmoud Ebouda

Presentation

Long standing headache, recent blurring of vision and memory disturbances.

Modality: CT

Large fairly defined mixed density lobulated mass is seen located entirely within the lateral ventricle. It extends till encroaching upon and around both foramena of Munro. The mass as if attached across the septum pellucidium. The mass exhibits area of calcification and cystic region. It shows areas of fair enhancement in the post contrast series. The mass measures 6 x4.6x 5 cm. in its maximum three dimensions.Supratentorial ventricular dilatation is noticed. A tumour blush is frequently identified, with the mass supplied by choroidal vessels. A feeding arteries are seen.

Modality: MRI

Large heterogeneously enhancing mass in mid line almost filling the bodies of both lateral ventricles. The mass is compressing the 3rd ventricle leading to dilatation of both lateral ventricles. Superiorly, the mass is abutting the corpus callosum.

Post operaive Ct study

Modality: CT

Postoperative intervention of supratentroial intraventricular tumor.

Modality: Pathology

Immunohistochemical study and electron microscopy confirm the diagnosis of cerebral intraventricular neurocytoma.

Case Discussion

The case underwent operative intervention and immunohistopathology confirm the diagnosis of central neurocytoma.
