Cerebellar haemangioblastoma

Case contributed by A.Prof Frank Gaillard

Patient Data

Age: 60 years

A left cerebellar cystic lesion with a vividly enhancing nodule is present, with prominent flow voids on T2. Features are typical of a haemangioblastoma

Case Discussion

The patient went on to have a resection which confirmed the diagnosis.

Sections show a moderately cellular cerebellar tumour composed of small capillary sized blood vessels with interspersed stromal cells. The stromal cells contain abundant clear cytoplasm, round to oval nuclei with bland chromatin and inconspicuous nucleoli. No mitoses or necrosis are seen. There is no evidence of malignancy. Immunohistochemistry results show tumour cells stain: Inhibin+, CAM5.2- and CD10-.

FINAL DIAGNOSIS: Haemangioblastoma.
