Cerebral abscess and ventriculitis

Presentation

Headache with seizure.

Patient Data

Age: Adult
Gender: Male

A peripherally (ring) enhancing lesion is seen in the medial aspect of the right temporal lobe with further enhancement seen along the temporal horn of the lateral ventricle. The enhancing rim demonstrates low T2 signal. Extensive surrounding edema is present. 

Case Discussion

Extension of a cerebral abscess into the ventricles is a very serious complication and has a very poor prognosis.
