Cerebral amyloid angiopathy (CAA)

Case contributed by A.Prof Frank Gaillard
Modality: MRI

MRI demonstrates multiple cerebral microhaemorrhages best seen on gradient echo sequence. These are randomly scattered through the brain, largely sparing the basal ganglia and more pronounced in the periphery. A larger haemorrhage is noted in the occipital lobe on the left.

Case Discussion

The findings are characteristic of cerebral amyloid angiopathy (CAA).
