There are multiple punctate non-confluent hyperintensities seen involving basal ganglia, periventricular white matter and grey matter-white matter junction throughout the cerebrum on T2WI and FLAIR.
On DWI shows innumerable foci of diffusion restriction in multiple vascular distributions giving typical starfield pattern. No blooming foci were noted on GRE images,
Case Discussion
There are multiple punctate non-confluent hyperintensities seen involving basal ganglia, periventricular white matter and the grey matter-white matter junction throughout the cerebrum and cerebellum on T2WI and FLAIR in a traumatic patient. These appearances are typical of cerebral fat embolism.
