The left cerebral hemisphere shows:
- thinning of the grey matter cortex
- reduced volume of the underlying white matter mainly affects the frontoparietal region
- enlargement of the ipsilateral lateral ventricle as well as ipsilateral cisterns
- encephalomalacia involving the left high parietal region
- reduced size of the left (ipsilateral) cerebral peduncle
- As well as reduced size of the contralateral cerebellum
Note small-sized contralateral (right) cerebellar hemisphere.
Case Discussion
This is a case of cerebral hemiatrophy, which has many different etiologies, congenital and acquired.
