Cerebral venous thrombosis with hemorrhagic venous infarction

Presentation

Severe headaches with no neurological deficit.

Patient Data

Age: 30 years
Gender: Female

The MRI sequences demonstrate:

  • area of venous hemorrhagic infarct in the right temporo-occipital region of high signal on T1 and T2 with blooming on the GE sequence, and surrounding edema.
  • thrombosis of the right lateral and sigmoid sinuses, the ipsilateral internal jugular vein as well as a small adjacent cortical vein, which appear high signal on T1, T2, and FLAIR with loss of their signal void on MRV 2D-TOF.
