Case contributed by Dr Mohammad Taghi Niknejad

Neck pain

Patient Data

Age: 55 years
Gender: Male

Two triangular ossifications in the front aspect of the intervertebral discs C4-C5 and C5-C6 are seen. The height of the intervertebral discs is normal. No evidence of vertebral body fracture.

Case Discussion

Findings are consistent with intercalary bones which are common discal ossifications and usually triangular in morphology, found in the anterior annular fibers of an intervertebral disc, and are thought to be degenerative in etiology.
