Presentation
Pervaginal bleeding
Patient Data
Normal transabdominal scan of the uterus and vaginal canal. An intrauterine contraceptive device is seen in place.
On transvaginal scan, there is an artery identified passing through the cervical canal starting at the posterior endometrial stripe at the lower most part of endometrium reaching the posterior fornix of vagina where a hyperechoic soft tissue lesion is seen.
Case Discussion
Features of a prolapsed cervical polyp. It was not identified by transabdominal scan and even with the transvaginal scan by the referring gynecologist. The patient said there is a polypoidal lesion that can be felt by her fingers and the doctor documented a prolapsed cervical polyp based on vaginal examination. The only way to identify it was by using the color Doppler that evidently showed the "feeding artery sign" which represents the pedicle for the polyp.
