Facial swelling and left proptosis

Patient Data

Age: 22 years old
Gender: Male
Modality: CT

Bilateral rather symmetrical expanding osteolytic lesions affecting both mandibular rami with intact cortical margin and no soft tissue masses detected.

Another osteolytic lesion seen involving the left sphenoid bone and responsible for mild left proptosis.

Diagnosis: Maxillofacial fibrous dysplasia (Cherubism)

Case Discussion

The findings consistent of cherubism, which has historically been considered a variant of fibrous dysplasia, but in reality is likely a distinct entity.
