Presentation

Bilateral lower limb weakness for 4 years

Age: 25 years
Gender: Female
MRI

Marked caudal descent of cerebellar tonsils through the foramen magnum.

Syrinx formation along the spine more prominent in the thoracic level (from T3 to T8) 

No hydrocephalus. 

Case Discussion

Chiari I malformation characterized by a caudal descent of the cerebellar tonsil through the foramen magnum. It is more frequently seen in female (as in our case).

Treatment for patient with syrinx consists of decompressing the posterior fossa.
