Case contributed by Mohammad Taghi Niknejad
Diagnosis certain

Presentation

Incidental finding.

Patient Data

Age: 55 years
Gender: Male

There is gas between the liver and diaphragm; folds outlining the gas suggest it is within the colon and not free.

Case Discussion

The findings are consistent with the Chilaiditi sign, where a part of the colon is abnormally positioned between the liver and the diaphragm. It is important because it can simulate pneumoperitoneum, so called pseudopneumoperitoneum.

A case of Prof. Saeed Rad, Tabriz, Iran.
