Case contributed by Dr Mohammad Taghi Niknejad

Presentation

Incidental finding.

Patient Data

Age: 55 years
Gender: Male

There is gas between liver and diaphragm; folds outlining the gas suggest that it is within the bowel and not free.

Case Discussion

The findings are consistent with Chilaiditi sign where a part of the colon is abnormally positioned between the liver and the diaphragm.
Chilaiditi sign is important because it can simulate pneumoperitoneum, also called pseudopneumoperitoneum .

A case of Prof. Saeed Rad, Tabriz, Iran.
