Choledochal cyst

2 Years old female patient with abdominal pain, distension and mild jaundice.

Patient Data

Age: 2 Years
Gender: Female
Modality: MRI

Large cystic dilatation of the CBD with mild intrahepatic central biliary dilatation, in keeping with choledochal cyst (Todani 1). 

Modality: Ultrasound

Large cystic dilatation of the common bile duct (CBD) is seen, measuring about   8.0 x 4.3 x 4.7 cm in its main axial and CC dimensions respectively. There is also mildly dilated central intra-hepatic biliary radicles and distended gallbladder.

The liver is mildly enlarged with homogenous parenchyma, no definite focal hepatic lesion.

Normal pancreas, spleen and both kidneys.

No enlarged para-aortic lymph nodes.

No ascites.

Case Discussion

This case shows a large cystic dilatation of the CBD - Type Ia choledochal cyst. There is also a mild hepatomegaly.
