Cholelithiasis in sickle cell anemia

A known case of sickle cell anemia presented with chronic abdominal pain for 4 months.

Patient Data

Age: 10 years
Gender: Male

Contracted gall bladder with multiple echogenic calculi (largest measuring approximately 1.7 cm) showing posterior acoustic shadowing seen within gall bladder lumen.

Gall bladder wall measures 3.3 mm.

The spleen is small in size measuring 4 cm.

A higher incidence of gall stones has been found in patients suffering from sickle cell disease, predominantly in the younger age group 1
