Presentation
Knee pain. Difficulty walking upstairs.
Patient Data
Menisci are intact. Collateral and cruciate ligaments are intact. Mild quadriceps tendinosis. Patellar tendon is intact. Mild lateral patellar subluxation.
Severe chondral fissuring, both partial and full thickness, of the medial and lateral patellar facets with subchondral marrow edema and cyst formation. Articular cartilage within the femoral trochlea is preserved. Articular cartilage within the medial and lateral tibiofemoral compartments is preserved.
Case Discussion
Chondromalacia patellae is the degeneration of the articular hyaline cartilage of the patella and is a frequent cause of anterior knee pain. There are numerous causes and in this the patient may be secondary to the mild lateral patellar subluxation.
