Case contributed by Frank Gaillard
Diagnosis certain

Presentation

Hoarse voice.

Patient Data

Age: Adult
Gender: Male
ct

A partially calcified mass appears to arise from the left arytenoid cartilage.

Case Discussion

The patient went on to have a resection that demonstrated a low-grade chondrosarcoma arising from the left arytenoid cartilage.

Histology

This specimen consists of lobulated fragments of cartilaginous tissue with mild cytological atypia. In this clinical setting these findings are most consistent with a low-grade chondrosarcoma, as benign chondromas at this anatomical site are vanishingly rare.
