Case Discussion
The transverse tarsal joint, also known as the midtarsal or Chopart joint, is the articulation of the hindfoot and the midfoot. The ligamentous component of the joint is crucial to the stabilization of the midfoot. The midtarsal joint is consistent of:
- dorsal talonavicular ligament
- spring ligament complex
- calcaneonavicular component of the bifurcate ligament
- calcaneocuboid component of the bifurcate ligament
- dorsal calcaneocuboid ligament
- short and long plantar ligaments
The tarsometatarsal joint also known as the Lisfranc joint articulates the midfoot and the forefoot, it contains the Lisfranc ligamentous complex.
