Presentation

Tender and swollen midfoot after fall.

Patient Data

Age: 50 years
Gender: Female
x-ray

Undisplaced fracture of the anterior process of the calcaneum.  Small bony avulsion adjacent to the lateral calcaneocuboid joint, likely due to a bony avulsion of the dorsal calcaneocuboid ligament.  Bony capsular avulsion of the dorsal talonavicular joint.  In combination, findings are due to a Chopart injury/ midfoot sprain.  

Case Discussion

A midfoot sprain/Chopart joint injuries can be overlooked as often reporters focus on the ankle joint and metatarsals instead of the central structures.  This combination of findings indicates a Chopart joint injury.
