Info

Right tarsal bones are sharply deformed. The articular surface of the talus and cuboid bone is fragmented. The foot is abnormally aligned with subluxation of the Chopart joint.

A fistulous tract is visible on the volar surface of the foot.

Case Discussion

The elevation of the Chopart's joint in osteomyelitis refers to the pathological subluxation or destruction of the joint due to infection. Osteomyelitis, a severe bone infection, can compromise the structural integrity of the midfoot, leading to joint instability, deformity, and potential necrosis of surrounding tissues. In chronic cases, this may result in bone resorption, sequestrum formation, and eventual joint collapse. Treatment typically involves antibiotics, debridement, and surgical intervention such as amputation or reconstruction in severe cases.
