Choriocarcinoma cerebral metastasis

Case contributed by A.Prof Frank Gaillard

Middle aged woman with headaches.

Gender: Female

Case Discussion

CT with contrast demonstrates a frontal lobe mass which is hyperdense. Without comparing to pre-contrast study it is difficult to assess for density (in this case the mass was hyperdense - not shown)

Sections of all three specimens show predominantly recent hemorrhage, associated with focal metastatic carcinoma, consistent with metastatic choriocarcinoma. Immunohistochemical studies show that the neoplastic cells are immunopositive for HCG and are immunonegative for alpha fetoprotein.
