Case contributed by Ammar Haouimi
Diagnosis almost certain

Presentation

Patient with decreased visual acuity. The ophthalmologic examination revealed a pigmented intraocular mass of the right eye.

Patient Data

Age: 55 years
Gender: Female
mri

The MRI sequences show a right intraocular subretinal soft tissue mass (inferior nasal quadrant) of high signal intensity on T1 and Flair, low signal intensity on T2, with intense and relatively homogeneous enhancement following IV contrast. No extraocular extension is seen. Note a retinal detachment with subretinal bleeding in the temporal quadrant.

Case Discussion

Choroidal melanoma with subretinal hemorrhage.

Both, tumor and subretinal hemorrhage appear hyperintense on T1 and hypointense T2, only the contrast-enhanced sequences make the discrimination.
