Chronic left hamstring avulsion/overuse injury.
Case Discussion
11 year old boy with 3 month history of exertional left hip pain (while running). The radiograph findings suggest a chronic avulsion/overuse injury of the left ischial tuberosity, the site of insertion of the hamstrings.
Apophyseal avulsion type injuries are more common in teenagers due to the relative weakness of the cartilaginous physeal equivalent in the growing skeleton.
