Chronic osteomyelitis - distal femur

Presentation

Chronic left thigh pain with pus discharge from its lateral aspect from one year ago and intractable to medical treatment.

Patient Data

Age: 45 years
Gender: Male
  • bone marrow edema in the left femoral mid to distal diaphysis

  • intra-medullary collection (Brodie's abscess)

  • cloacas along with left femur distal diaphysis lateral margin traversing the quadriceps femoris vastus intermedius and vastus lateralis

  • soft tissue inflammatory changes in the middle and distal parts of the left thigh

Case Discussion

MRI imaging findings of the left femur mid to distal diaphysis including bone marrow edema, intramedullary abscess formation, soft tissue inflammation, cloaca formation, and cortical destructive changes are characteristic of chronic osteomyelitis.
