Presentation
Presented with foot dorsum pain and swelling for the last month. No recent injury. History of penetrating injury due to thorn about 7 months before.
Patient Data
There is a hypoechoic tract formation from skin bump at the dorsal aspect of foot reaching up to anterior cortex of 4th metatarsal bone. A linear echogenic focus is present in this track which is a foreign body (thorn). It correlated with a history of thorn injury 7 months back.
There is a cavity with organized periosteal reaction suggestive of chronic osteomyelitis involving the 4th metatarsal bone.
Case Discussion
The patient presented with dorsum foot region pain for the last month without any recent injury. There was a local thorn injury about 7 months before. A radiograph was normal at the time of the injury. A recent radiograph shows chronic osteomyelitis and the ultrasound shows a soft tissue thorn. The incision and drainage were done and a 15 mm thorn was removed.
