Chronic right hip dislocation - failed Staheli "shelf" procedure for developmental dysplasia of the hip

Case contributed by Dr Chris O'Donnell

Chronic right hip pain

Patient Data

Age: 35
Gender: Female

Right hip is chronically dislocated with a shallow native acetabular fossa. Note creation of a new acetabulum with the "shelf" procedure. Despite this, marked osteoarthritic change has developed. The femoral head is grossly dysplastic with atrophy of the surrounding musculature compared to the opposite side.
