DTI color map and tractography

mri

Sagittal, axial, and coronal plane diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) color map of the cingulum bundles (arrows) and DTI tractography. This tract appears green on the color map since they represent fibers coursing in an anteroposterior direction.

Case Discussion

The cingulum tracts can be located on the color map above the corpus callosum. It is part of the limbic system and connects areas of the frontal, parietal, and temporal lobes. It involves many cognitive functions (memory, attention, emotions, and pain perception).

Color map codification:

  • Green: fibers in an anteroposterior direction (association tracts).

  • Red: transverse fibers (commissural tracts), connecting one hemisphere with the other.

  • Blue: craniocaudal fibers (projection tracts) are fibers that connect the cerebral cortex with caudal structures (subcortical centers, brainstem and the spinal cord).
